Generally we start to plan Hanby and Barrett projects a year in advance – finding funding in particular takes lots of time. Projects listed here may still be a germ of an idea – and sometimes these don’t get off the ground!
If you want to get involved in a project then please click on the link above to see any projects for which we’re looking for volunteers, or if we are seeking expressions of interest for any paid posts.
The Sutton-in-Ashfield Community Play – The Luddites
We have started our research and development work for what we hope will be a large scale community performance in Sutton-in-Ashfield to mark the 200th anniversary of the original Luddite riots. Fiona Mitchell-Innes has started work with us engaging community groups in the town and we will be running a series of workshops as we look to develop interest in the project.
Raleigh
We are in the research phase for a performance project that will take place on the site of the Raleigh factory in Nottingham – now the Jubilee campus of The University of Nottingham. We have a number of activities lined up over the following months – including activities with schools, ex-employees and a series of films and lectures that we hope to host both on the campus and at the Broadway cinema. The show will probably take place in June and will show how strong a force the factory was in the lives of local people, and the impact of the bikes around the world.
The Cries of Silent Men – London Outdoor Arts Festival
We have submitted a proposal to be part of this festival which is one of the strands of the Cultural Olympiad. If successful we will be taking the show, which was commissioned by Broxtowe Borough Council and then performed as part of NEAT 11, to a number of outdoor venues in the capital next summer.
Lincoln – Bomber Command
We are currently exploring the possibility of staging a community show in Lincoln for 2013 based around the history of Bomber Command. This would be part of a larger arts project based around the creation of a major public artwork to commemorate those who lost their life flying missions out of Lincolnshire.
