We have just heard that we have received funding for the first stage of what looks to be a really exciting project. This will be a collaboration with The University of Nottingham and will be based around the stories and memories of those who worked at Raleigh, one of the city’s most famous institutions. For now our funding is to develop links with those that worked at Raleigh, to carry out a period of research and to develop an outline for a large scale community performance on the site of the Jubilee Campus, which is where Raleigh was sited. We already have a few ideas in mind, so if you have an old (or new) Raleigh bike you may be asked to get involved…

In 1535, the men of the silent Carthusian Order of a small Nottinghamshire monastery stood up to Henry VIII’s demands in his battle to reform the alliance between church and state. This is the story of that incredible confrontation – the beginning of a wave of violence that would crash through England for decades.

Hanby and Barrett have become known across the region for producing spectacular site specific work with community actors. The Cries of Silent Men, commissioned by Broxtowe Borough Council, was first performed at Beauvale Priory in 2010.

This outdoor performance involves moving from place to place. Please note seating is not provided.

Tickets are now on sale and can be ordered from the Nottingham Playhouse Box Office.
Please note that numbers will be strictly limited. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

For more information please go to the Nottingham Playhouse webpage for the event:
Online bookings cost an extra £1.50 per ticket.

Please note that The Playhouse Online Booking system is showing The Cries of Silent Men as having sold out. There ARE tickets available for both nights, but until the problem is rectified bookings need to be made over the phone or in person at the Playhouse.

Hanby and Barrett is now officially a CIC – a Community Interest Company. We have been looking to make ourselves a “little bit more formal” for some time now, and CIC status seemed to be a good option for us. Part of it means being a limited liability company, but this new company format places us somewhere between being a normal company and a charity. A number of trusts and foundations that have previously only funded registered charities are beginning to accept applications from CICs. It also gives Hanby and Barrett a “good cause” status.
In terms of how we operate, it’ll make very little difference, but we are now called – officially – Hanby and Barrett Theatre Arts CIC.
